Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Best With | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Worn Sword | Floors 1 to 19 of the Upper Mines while you build Blacksmithing toward level 8 | Available from the start at the General Store for 150 Tesserae and the only weapon you can buy rather than craft. |
| Iron Sword | Tide Caverns floors 21 to 39 and the early Deep Earth | Crafted with four Iron Ingots at Blacksmithing level 14. |
| Mistril Sword | Lava Caves and Ancient Ruins, floors 61 to 99, and the descent to floor 100 | The top craftable sword, needing four Mistril Ingots at Blacksmithing level 32. |
| Pickaxe | Every mine trip, and for archaeology work alongside the shovel | Runs the same six tiers as every other tool, from Worn through Copper, Iron, Silver and Gold to Mistril. |
| Bug Net | Blocking ranged attacks in the Deep Earth and Lava Caves while closing to sword range | Nominally a bug-catching tool, but it also deflects incoming projectiles, which makes it a genuine defensive option in the deeper mines. |

Equipment Analysis
Worn Sword: Available from the start at the General Store for 150 Tesserae and the only weapon you can buy rather than craft. It clears the Upper Mines and nothing beyond them comfortably.
Iron Sword: Crafted with four Iron Ingots at Blacksmithing level 14. This is the tier where the Tide Caverns stop being dangerous and the Deep Earth becomes approachable.
Mistril Sword: The top craftable sword, needing four Mistril Ingots at Blacksmithing level 32. It is the weapon the Ancient Ruins and the run to floor 100 assume you are carrying.
Pickaxe: Runs the same six tiers as every other tool, from Worn through Copper, Iron, Silver and Gold to Mistril. It breaks rocks in the mines and doubles as an archaeology tool at dig sites.
Bug Net: Nominally a bug-catching tool, but it also deflects incoming projectiles, which makes it a genuine defensive option in the deeper mines. Most players never discover this and take the hits instead.
Meta Analysis
The current meta in Fields of Mistria centers on Nine skills to level 60 and Essence perks at Caldarus' shrine. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one. Our combat guide explains these interactions in depth.
What's strong right now:
- Farming with Worn Sword is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
- Six-tier tool upgrades builds are gaining ground as players find new combinations.
- Fishing remains essential for learning hard content. See the boss guide.
What's underrated:
- Mining is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
- Mistril Sword offers excellent performance for its investment level.
What's overhyped:
- Pure Ranching builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
