NPC Studio's pixel-art farming sim entered Early Access on 5 August 2024 and reached 1.0 exactly two years later, on 5 August 2026. An earthquake has cracked the town open and left magic leaking out of it, and you are handed the overgrown Sweetwater Farm in exchange for helping put Mistria back together. Nine skills run to level 60 apiece, the mines drop 100 floors, and 12 of the 30-plus villagers can be married.
Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.
Equipment Rankings
| Equipment | Tier | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Worn Sword | S | Floors 1 to 19 of the Upper Mines while you build Blacksmithing toward level 8 | Available from the start at the General Store for 150 Tesserae and the only weapon you can buy rather than craft. |
| Iron Sword | A | Tide Caverns floors 21 to 39 and the early Deep Earth | Crafted with four Iron Ingots at Blacksmithing level 14. |
| Mistril Sword | A | Lava Caves and Ancient Ruins, floors 61 to 99, and the descent to floor 100 | The top craftable sword, needing four Mistril Ingots at Blacksmithing level 32. |
| Pickaxe | B | Every mine trip, and for archaeology work alongside the shovel | Runs the same six tiers as every other tool, from Worn through Copper, Iron, Silver and Gold to Mistril. |
| Bug Net | B | Blocking ranged attacks in the Deep Earth and Lava Caves while closing to sword range | Nominally a bug-catching tool, but it also deflects incoming projectiles, which makes it a genuine defensive option in the deeper mines. |

Equipment Progression Path
The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:
- Starting gear → Enough to clear Sweetwater Farm
- Iron Sword → Your first real upgrade, available early
- Mistril Sword → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
- Worn Sword → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
- Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous
Equipment Tips
- Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
- Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
- Plant turnips on day one. They cost almost nothing, mature in four days and can be replanted back to back, which gives you cash flow while slower crops are still in the ground.
- Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
