SurrounDead is a small team survival game from Zurvivor, published by PlaySurrounDead and in Early Access on Steam since 24 June 2022, set five years after a viral outbreak. Everything happens on one map, Longdown Valley, which holds seven towns including Whitewood, New Richland and Gladewater alongside military camps, a prison, an airfield and three safe zones. The store page still lists multiplayer, quests and farming as planned rather than present, so treat any guide as a snapshot of an unfinished game.

Your choice of equipment defines your damage output and playstyle. This guide ranks every major option, explains what makes each one strong, and tells you which builds they pair best with.

Equipment Progression Path

The order you should acquire equipment as you progress:

  1. Starting gear → Enough to clear Whitewood
  2. M4 → Your first real upgrade, available early
  3. Benelli M4 → Mid-game upgrade with good scaling
  4. Barrett 50 Cal → Best-in-slot, aim for this by late game
  5. Upgrade to max → The power spike from max upgrades is enormous

Equipment Tips

  • Always upgrade your primary equipment before diversifying. One strong option beats three mediocre ones.
  • Match your equipment to your build's stat priorities for maximum scaling.
  • Drop a sleeping bag inside the first defensible building you clear. It sets your respawn, and dying without one puts you a long walk from everything you owned.
  • Check our tier list for how equipment rankings affect overall build effectiveness.
